Indonesian soldier jailed for torture and killing of Papuan man

The Jayapura Military Court in Indonesia's Papua has jailed First Private Hasirun to six months' jail for torturing and killing a Papuan man, Kinderman Gire in March last year.

The Jakarta Post reports that a panel of judges found Hasirun had disobeyed orders by violently assaulting Mr Kinderman.

A video depicting men in military fatigues abusing two Papuans surfaced on the internet last year.

The National Human Rights Commission investigated and found that soldiers had captured and tortured of Mr Kinderman, who was later found decapitated.
