Fiji police launch campaign against sex crimes

6:10 pm on 17 August 2011

The Fiji police have launched a national campaign to combat sex crime.

The ministry of information reports that the police commissioner, Brigadier General Ioane Naivalurua, has told all officers to go out into the communities and speak on the issue.

Brigadier Naivalurua says officers must face up to the issue, talk about it openly and find solutions within their routine police activities.

The call is part of a wider campaign in which the force is challenging everyone in Fiji to 'Stand Up and Be Counted - 'Say No to Sexual Offences, Say No To Crime,' and protect children, who make up the bulk of victims.
