Manus Island in Papua New Guinea wants an assistance package to fund 28 major infrastructure projects as the government prepares to make a deal with Australia to reopen its refugee detention camp.
The PNG government said last week it approved the re-opening of the camp.
The projects the province wants worked on include worn out roads, an upgrading of the domestic airport, improvements to the water supply, police housing and the local hospital, and the building of a technical high school and a broadband network.
The provincial governor, Michael Sapau, says they gave a position paper detailing this to the former acting prime minister Sam Abal, and the same document is going to the new government as it negotiates with Australia.
Mr Sapau says Manus province is one of the least developed parts of the country.
