A 5.1 magnitude earthquake was felt in Samoa and American Samoa this morning.

The United States Geological Survey said the quake's centre was 273 kilometres south west of Apia and 342 kilometres miles west south west of Pago Pago, American Samoa.

It had a depth of 112.6 kilometres.

American Samoa's Emergency Operations Centre says the quake did not register on their earthquake monitor which means it was not a major tremor.
