Tahiti bounced back from a first up defeat to thrash Cook Islands 7-0 in men's football at the Pacific Games in New Caledonia.

The win keeps the territory in playoff contention ahead of a difficult tie tomorrow against Papua New Guinea.

After wasting a series of chances at the weekend Fiji proved lethal in front of goal, with Roy Krishna collecting three in a 9-0 demolition of Kiribati that saw them go top of Group B.

In Group A, New Caledonia put nine goals past Guam to make it 14 unanswered strikes in two games.

Solomon Islands kept pace with the hosts, winning 4-0 against American Samoa, while Vanuatu grabbed their first win of the tournament against Tuvalu.

Today the women are back in action with Cook Islands, Guam, Tonga and Fiji to play their first matches of the tournament.
