A Samoan man has been jailed for life for murder for killing his former wife and the mother of his child.

An assessor trial in Samoa has reached a unanimous verdict of guilty against a man who was facing a murder charge relating to the killing in October last year.

Noah Ulberg was immediately sentenced by the presiding judge, Lesatele Rapi Vaai, to the maximum penalty for murder.

An intoxicated Ulberg had attacked the woman, his former defacto wife, with a machete after he heard she'd started another relationship.
