10:44 am on 2 September 2011

Fiji's interim Prime Minister has advised Pacific countries to stick together to deal with challenges facing the region.

The Engaging the Pacific meeting was organised last year, in place of the cancelled Melanesian Spearhead Group meeting.

Commodore Frank Bainimarama says co-operation could be used as tool to move forward.

He says Pacific nations must continue to assert their presence.

Commodore Bainimarama says the unique concerns of Pacific Small Islands Developing States are now being addressed through group diplomacy at the United Nations.

FijiLive reports the meeting ends today with the signing of a communique.
