Solomons minister says Fiji gave answers to key questions

1:08 pm on 2 September 2011

The Solomon Islands foreign minister says Pacific leaders have been asking questions of Fiji's interim government during this week's meeting in Nadi.

Fiji is hosting leaders as part of its Engaging with the Pacific meeting.

The minister, Peter Shanel, says questions have been raised over the continued censorship of the media, and the crackdown on unions and the Methodist Church.

"I've asked that question yesterday. I raised it up with the Fiji government and the question was answered, just to clear [up] those questions that are in the public domain. They gave the floor an answer."

Peter Shanel says MSG countries will be asking the Pacific Islands Forum summit next week to do more to engage with Fiji.
