French Polynesia's importer of Porsche cars from Germany has taken issue with a press report that described Tahiti as the world champion of the Porsche Cayenne.

It says last year it sold only 70 of the four wheel drive vehicles which means there is one for every 3,800 inhabitants.

The importer says in New Caledonia, more than 200 of the same model were sold, which means there is a Porsche Cayenne for every 1,200 residents.

According to the Nouvelles de Tahiti, the importer claims that its buyers are found among all ethnic groups.
