The Solomon Islands Leadership Code Commission is to investigate an allegation of misconduct in office against the Prime Minister, Danny Philip.
The inquiry was sparked by a complaint by the leader of the opposition that alleged Mr Philip acted illegally by selling a state-owned house to an MP.
The commission's chairperson says the investigation will determine whether Mr Philip's sale of the house to the West Honiara MP amounts to misconduct under Solomon Islands law.
Emmanuel Kouhata says the process will have one of three outcomes.
"One is that if we find that there is no evidence to support the allegation we'll just dismiss the allegation, secondly if we find that the allegation is proven the commission can either give a reprimand to the leader or a fine of up to $5,000 and the other thing the commission can do is refer the case to the High Court."
Emmanuel Kouhata says the case will be allocated to an investigation officer this week but he has no idea how long the inquiry will take.
