Sport: No public entry to Pacific Games closing ceremony

6:44 am on 10 September 2011

The 14th edition of the Pacific Games ends today with the closing ceremony to be held at the Henry Milliard Racecourse in Noumea.

However the public won't be able to watch the event in person, with only athletes and volunteers able to attend.

More than three thousand athletes and four thousand volunteers took part in this year's Games in New Caledonia.

The 28 sports were primarily based in Noumea but some took matches to decentralised venues in the North Province and Loyalty Islands.

The Director of the Pacific Games Organising Committee, Phillipe LePoul, says while the ceremony is not open to the public it will be broadcast on TV, and two big screens will be set up in Anse Vata for people to watch the show.

The ceremony will begin following the Rugby World Cup match between France and Japan, with an athletes parade through the streets of Noumea to follow.
