An American Samoan man accused of killing his bed-ridden brother last December has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.
Faauliuli Faufano was initially charged with first degree murder, a crime punishable by life in jail, but he pleaded guilty two months ago to second degree murder under a plea agreement with the government.
Before being sentenced Faufano begged his family for forgiveness for killing his brother and asked the court for leniency.
Chief Justice Michael Kruse said the victim had been bed-ridden all his life and was taken care of by his mother until she died when the defendant took over the care.
