Samoa urged to explain nurses pay delays

10:55 am on 19 September 2011

The president of Samoa's nurses association is calling on the Prime Minister, Tuila'epa Sa'ilele Malielegaoi, to explain why there has been a delay in paying out the approved salary increases.

Fa'amanatu Nielsen says the increase was endorsed by the ministry's board however it has not been paid out for nearly three months.

Mrs Nielsen says she suspects the delay is due to a negative approach within the ministry towards the new salary structure.

She says a meeting of the association will be called soon to discuss the delay but the salary increase should be back dated to July.

The president has decided to go public on the matter because she has been bombarded with enquiries and complaints from members of the association.
