Confusion continues as American Samoa public servants wait for pay

5:13 pm on 27 September 2011

The waiting continues for government employees in American Samoa whose paychecks are direct credited, while some employees paid by cheque have been unable to cash them apparently due to insufficient government funds.

There's been no explanation from Treasury or any advice from the Governor's Office on when employees could expect to get their direct deposits.

ANZ Amerika Samoa Bank customers says it has been unable to cash cheques, as a deposit from the government hadn't come through.

But Bank of Hawaii branch manager, Hobbs Lowson, has said all cheques presented to the Bank today have been honoured as there are more than sufficient funds in the government accounts.

And he says the Bank had a system errors and funds will be credited for the direct payments tonight.
