French Polynesia's opposition Tahoeraa Huiraatira Party says there is no surprise in Vanuatu and Solomons Islands speaking in favour of French Polynesia's bid to be reinscribed on the UN decolonisation list.
The party's Edouard Fritch says the Melanesian Spearhead Group had already signalled its support for the campaign led by President Oscar Temaru.
He says 33 leaders from thoughout the world have addressed the UN General Assembly and for them French Polynesia was not part of their concerns.
France removed the territory from the list but returned New Caledonia to it in 1986.
Paris is against the French Polynesian bid, saying the territory has the largest measure of autonomy within the French republic and gets two billion US dollars in annual transfers.
