A 26-year-old fugitive from American Samoa wanted on rape and sexual abuse charges was arrested last night in Honolulu.

An arrest warrant in American Samoa was issued in August last year for Tone Pulou, who was an elementary school teacher when he allegedly had intercourse with a 13-year-old girl and impregnated her.

The sexual relationship between teacher and student allegedly continued from September 2009 through February 2010.

Pulou fled the territory to Australia last year and then travel to Hawai'i in September this year and stayed with relatives in Waianae.

He is being held at the Honolulu police station and will appear today before a judge.

The American Samoa government has moved to extradite the fugitive to American Samoa to face the charges.
