French Polynesian fishermen say they will block the port of Papeete this morning to all ships while negotiations are being held with the government.
They demand that the price of fuel be dropped - two months after the government decided to raise it.

"40 fishing vessels lined up yesterday for a partial blockade of the entry to Tahiti's port as a warning that further action will follow. They say 30 more boats will join them from the Leeward islands as their leaders will be in negotiations with the marine resources minister. The planned action has raised concern among commuters from Moorea who worry they may not be able to return home tonight. The President Oscar Temaru says the blockade is not a solution and has called on the fishermen to show more solidarity in difficult times."
