Fresh supplies of aid to arrive in drought stricken Tuvalu

6:52 am on 13 October 2011

An Air Force Hercules will deliver fresh supplies of aid to drought affected Tuvalu this morning.

Spare parts for a desalination unit operating on the main atoll will be flown from Samoa, as well as containers to collect and store fresh water.

The New Zealand Red Cross will also deliver two desalination units to another atoll, and reservoirs that are being repaired by defence force engineers will be replenished.

The measures are expected to provide a buffer during a dry period forecast for the next four weeks.
