PNG's National alliance sacks members over Somare affair

PNG's National Alliance party has sacked 12 parliamentarians for conduct prejudicial to the interest of the party.

Speaker Jeffery Nape, Don Polye, Sam Abal, Paul Tiensten and Patrick Tammur have all been expelled from the party, and nine others have been suspended pending their appeal against the charge.

The newspaper, The National reports the move is over the overthrow of the party by the government, and the dismissal of its parliamentary leader, Sir Michael Somare.

A letter from the party, says the remaining members of the party will conduct a meeting to appoint an acting parliamentary leader as soon as possible, after the determination by the Supreme Court on the future of party leader Sir Michael.
