The General Secretary of the Malaita Ma'asina Forum, an organisation representing the interests of the Malaita people in Solomon Islands, is adamant that the government tried to of bribe him.

William Gua says a member of the government, he wishes not to name, gave him envelopes filled with money to stop him from organising a protest march against the current government.

"I was given a certain amount of money at four different places at four different times. The total amount was 12,500 Solomon dollars. That's what actually happened."

Mr Gua says the anti-government protest will go ahead as planned on October the 29th, and he will hand the money to the police as evidence of corruption.
