A former president of the American Samoa Senate, Lolo Letalu Moliga, has declared he is running for governor of American Samoa in next year's general elections.
Lolo, currently President of the American Samoa Development Bank, has picked as his running mate, Senator Lemanu Peleti Mauga, a retired Captain of the US Army Reserve in the Territory.
Lolo said in a statement his 40 years as a public servant and private business owner has laid the foundation for his vision of working for a prosperous and promising future for the territory.
The only other known candidates for the 2012 gubernatorial race are current Lt. Governor Faoa Aitofele Sunia and running mate Taufetee John Faumuina Jr.
Current governor, Togiola Tulafono, is prohibited by law from running for another term as he has already served two consecutive terms.
