A senior Papua New Guinea police officer says he's relieved to have been cleared of corruption charges by the National Court.

The chief of police operations for the National Capital District, Andy Bawa was arrested and charged with two counts of official corruption last October.

The charges related to allegations he was receiving a double salary - one from the police force and one from another government agency.

Justice Panuel Mogish has dismissed the charges after finding lack of criminality and insufficient evidence against the accused, and also ordered that his bail money be refunded.
