The Fiji regime has extended the Public Emergency Regulations until December the 2nd.

The extension was made official by the President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau.

The regime imposed the emergency rules in April 2009 when the constitution was abrogated after a court found that the Bainimarama interim government was illegal.

At the time, the interim prime minister, Commodore Frank Bainimamara, said he expected the emergency rules to be in place for about a month.

The provisions ban gatherings and curb the media.
