Airlines Papua New Guinea will start flying its fleet of Dash-8 aircraft again, after they were grounded following a crash in Madang which killed 28 people two weeks ago.

The PNG Civil Aviation Safety Authority has allowed the fleet of 12 aircraft to return to the skies progressively over the next two weeks, after the airline agreed to abide by more stringent operational and training procedures.

The Authority has issued an airworthiness directive mandating more frequent inspections and tests on the propeller and power lever systems.

It says it will continue to monitor the safety performance of the airline through audits and surveillance.
