Vanuatu government pays outstanding school fees

12:15 pm on 1 November 2011

The Vanuatu government has finally paid funds owed to primary schools and paid the allowances of Ni-Vanuatu university students in New Caledonia.

This comes after five months of waiting and complaints and only weeks before the schools close for the year.

The disbursement is in line with a government policy introduced this year that offers free education in schools run by the government, the Catholic Church, the Presbyterian Church, the Anglican Church and Seven Day Adventist Church.

.

The policy was introduced after government realised that school fees were the main reason that parents didn't send their children to school.
