Fiji police says there has been a significant increase in the rate of crime committed against women in the past three months.

Fiji Village reports Brigadier General Iowane Naivalarua as saying a 118 percent increase in crimes against women has been recorded.

He says a further 20 percent increase in crimes against children was recorded over the same period.

Brigadier General Naivalarua told a police parade that a more concerted effort needs to be taken to make Fiji safer for women and children.
