Samoa's health minister says use private morgues

1:58 pm on 11 November 2011

Samoa's health minister Dr Leao Talalelei Tuitama, says the only public morgue on Savaii will reopen but says people should try and use private morgues anyway.

The opposition party is putting pressure on the Government to reopen the morgue because the private alternative is too expensive for some people.

Dr Tuitama, says the morgue which is attached to the main Tuasivi hospital on Savaii, has been closed for over a month to undergo repairs.

He is hopeful it will reopen by the end of the year but says he would eventually like to see everyone use private morgues.

"Ideally the public should try and use the private morgue that's available to them because the hospital it cannot cater for the nation's need to keep bodies as well."
