Tuvalu government under attack at international women's conference

7:24 pm on 17 November 2011

Tuvalu's National Council of Women has called on the country's government to do more to stop coastal flooding.

Co-ordinator Pulafagu Toafa has told the International Council of Women's conference in Nadi that children living in flood prone areas often need hospital treatment for diarrhoea, skin and eye infections.

She told the conference that the government does nothing about it - that MPs are always travelling.

Mrs Toafa also criticised the government's actions during the recent drought crisis, saying a ration of four buckets of water per day was inadequate for extended families.
