Sport: Netball Fiji waiting on visas

11:38 am on 22 November 2011

Netball Fiji is expecting to hear today if visas will be granted for two members of its national team who are competing in the FastNet Series in England, which starts this weekend.

The rest of the Fiji squad is in Liverpool but two players stayed home after failing to get visa clearance from the British High Commission.

The President of Netball Fiji, Wainikiti Bogidrau, says one of those players was unable to attend her interview as she had high school exams, while the reason for the other denial is unclear.

"It's quite unfortunate because one of the players is one of our key players - Maria Lutua. We are hoping for the best, hoping that they can get their visas today so they can fly out to England tomorrow."

Wainikiti Bogidrau says if the players can't link up with the squad in time for their first match on Saturday the team will have to manage with just ten players.

She says drafting in some ex Fijian internationals from the British Army team is also a possibility.
