More than 2-thousand-600 polling places manned by 19,500 workers are now open for the New Zealand general election.
Polling booths are open until 7 o'clock tonight with the busiest times times traditionally being the next two hours .
More than three-million-and 53-thousand people are registered to vote and anyone enrolled by midnight last night can cast a ballot today for the country's 50th Parliament.
The Chief Electoral Officer, Robert Peden, says it is crucial people vote; as well as choosing a government, they'll also be having their say in a referendum on what voting system should be used in the future.
