NZ lawyer appointed as Fiji's new DPP

New Zealand lawyer, Christopher Pryde, has been appointed as Fiji's new Director of Public Prosecutions by the President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau.

Fiji Village online says Mr Pryde will replace outgoing DPP, Ayesha Jinasena who is returning home to Sri Lanka.

Christopher Pryde's position as Solicitor-General, he has held since 2007 and position as Permanent Secretary for Justice and Anti-corruption held since 2009, will be relinquished.

Meanwhile, Deputy Solicitor-General Sharvada Sharama will serve as Acting Solicitor-General.
