For the next seven days Papua New Guinea police have stepped up security in the National Capital District.
The central police commander, Assistant Commissioner Fred Sheekiot, says the heightened security is needed to maintain law and order during a critical week in Port Moresby.
Parliament is meeting, with the Budget due to be released today and on Friday the Supreme Court is to rule on a reference that may declare the O'Neill government assumed power illegally four months ago.
Police say all available police manpower and resources are being deployed in a special security operation which will include random road blocks set up around the capital.
A mobile squad will be flown in from Lae and Assistant Commissioner Sheekiot says police recruits and staff from the Bomana College and headquarters staff will also be involved.
