The regional manager of the Pacific Adaptation to Climate Change Project says their efforts will be futile unless more is done by developed countries to mitigate carbon emissions.
Members of the project have been in talks with donor partners and other agencies in Durban during global climate summit.
Taito Nakalevu says while Pacific islands want help with their adaptation efforts, their goal is also reduced emissions.
"If we do not have a legally binding agreement and emissions continue to rise, then basically it will be detrimental to all of us, particularly small island developing states. And also, our adaptation efforts will come to nil or be seriously impacted if we do not reduce emissions."
