A special meeting of trade ministers from Pacific Islands Forum countries is being held this weekend in Brussels to consider applications for chief trade advisor.

The post has been vacant since New Zealand academic Dr Christopher Noonan resigned several months ago.

The chief trade advisor's key role is to help the island countries in their negotiations on trade agreements, particularly in the PACER Plus deal with New Zealand and Australia.
