The chair of Dongwon Industries, which owns American Samoa's Starkist cannery, says an exchange programme with its South Korean plant has paid dividends.

Jae-chul Kim, in the territory for a board meeting, says in the past three years there's been an incredible improvement at the Pago Pago plant.

He says part of the credit for this is an exchange programme implemented by Dongwon, under which about a dozen local cannery workers went to South Korea, while a management team came to Pago Pago.

Jae-chul Kim says this has led to an improvement and a positive attitude, and he expects the American Samoa plant will be very competitive on a global scale.
