CNMI warned to be on lookout for little fire ants

People in the Northern Marianas are being urged to be on the lookout for little fire ants and to report any possible sightings.

University of Guam entomology professor, Ross Miller, says if people do spot these ants they should take them to a quarantine division so authorities can identify them.

He says despite their size, little fire ants are probably the worst insect pest that could come to the islands, as their colonies can kill all small animals and insects and make life miserable for anyone who lives around them.

Little fire ants have already infested the neighboring island of Guam and are widespread at about seven different sites from north to south of the island.
