Sport: Tikoisuva looking forward to retirement

The outgoing CEO of the Fiji Rugby Union says he's looking forward to finally being able to put his feet up after a 40 year career in rugby.

Pio Bosco Tikoisuva is retiring at the end of the month, after a long and distinguished career, in which he captained the national team, spent two stints in charge of the FRU and managed the Flying Fijians at two World Cups.

He previously retired as CEO in 2005 but was lured back to the FRU a year later and returned to the top job earlier this year on an acting basis.

He says things have certainly changed a lot since his playing days.

"There was really nothing to receive - you even have to buy your own boots. There was no daily allowance and we don't stay in hotels so people come in not for what they get but for the passion for the game."

And I think that's what looking back for us on during this era in the 60s and 70s it's really the passion of the game, you do it because you love it.
