Tahiti to keep French education inspectors

2:07 pm on 23 December 2011

The French high commissioner in French Polynesia says two French education inspectors will stay out their term after an annnouncement earlier this week that they would leave at the end of next week.

Richard Didier has now told Tahiti media that the two will remain until July.

The French Polynesian education minister, Tauhiti Nena, had denounced the sudden disestablishment of the two positions, describing the move as brutal and without any discussions.

The row over the inspectors is seen as being linked to disagreements between Mr Nena and a senior French education ministry official in Papeete.
