Guam to host Tuna Commission meeting in wake of Palau power plant fire

The annual meeting of the Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission has been shifted to Guam after a fire in November at Palau's main power plant.

Palau was due to host the meeting at the beginning of this month but after the fire forced electricity rationing it was rescheduled in March.

However there is still some uncertainty around the country's recovery from the fire so the meeting has been transferred to Guam in March.

Officials in Palau indicate repairs to the older diesel generators could take more than a year to complete.

Commonly referred as the Tuna Commission, the agency brings together hundreds of delegates from about 30 countries.
