A 19-year-old male in Guam has been arrested for the alleged rape of a Japanese tourist early last month.
He is being held on a 10,000 US dollar cash bail.
According to court documents the victim, a 24-year-old female, was on vacation from Japan last month, staying at the Onward Beach Resort.
The incident occurred on the night she met the accused who worked as a deck hand.
The victim was taken to a crisis centre where the examining doctor said her injuries were the worst she had seen in her 20 years of experience.
Meanwhile, the Guam Visitors Bureau General Manager Joann Camacho said the safety of visitors and community will always be a top priority.
She said it is inexcusable for a visitor to be put through an ordeal like this.
