Tonga's prime minister, Lord Tu'ivakano, says the parliamentary speaker, Lord Lasike should resign, after the chief justice issued an arrest warrant for a breach of bail conditions.

Matangi Tonga reports that Lord Lasike, who is facing charges of illegally possessing gun ammunition, failed to lead a month long parliamentary delegation to Israel.

Instead he travelled to the US, breaching his bail conditions.

Lord Lasike is understood to have got married in the US and is yet to return to Tonga.

It is the second arrest warrant issued for Lord Lasike.

The first came after he failed to appear in court for arraignment in October.

The prime minister told Matangi Tonga that Lord Lasike should resign when he returns to Tonga.
