Kiribati Presidential election put back two weeks

2:37 pm on 30 December 2011

The election for President in Kiribati has been put back two weeks.

The election was to have happened today but it's been delayed because the festive season means many people are not in their electorates and so couldn't vote.

They are expected to have returned home by the new election date of January the 13th.

The candidates for president, nominated by MPs, are the incumbent Anote Tong, Dr Tetaua Taitai and the previous opposition leader, Rimeta Beniamina.
