Solomons reconciliation minister injured in assault

The Solomon Islands minister for peace and reconciliation, Hypolite Taremae, is in hospital after he as assaulted at the weekend.

The Solomon Star says an unidentified individual got out of a vehicle and punched the minister before escaping.

The incident happened near the Yacht Club in Honiara on Saturday night.

The paper says Mr Taremae was driven home after the attack but taken to hospital hours later once a doctor was available to perform three hours of surgery.

It's not known why Mr Taremae was assaulted.
