A third woman is expected to join the America Samoa Senate soon.

The High Chief Tiumalu Sia Scanlan of Fagatogo has been selected by leading chiefs and orators of Ma'uputasi District # 6, to fill the vacancy created by the recent passing of the late Senator Amituana'I Eteuati Vailoata.

Fagaalu chiefs were of the opinion that one of their own should continue Amituanai's tenure, pointing out that Fagatogo had long held the mauputasi Senate seat.

Fagaalu endorsed Lagoo Uso to be senator.

However the consensus of the latest meeting was to give the honour to High Chief Tiumalu, and Lagoo acquiesced.

Tiumalu also had the backing of County chief of Mauputasi Faumauina Tagisiali'i..

The district now awaits the issuance of a writ of vacancy by the governor before Tiumalu can be sworn in as senator.
