Public servants in Tonga to petition King this week over retirement funds

Tonga's public servants will petition the King this week over their retirement fund grievances.

The Public Service Association says members want access to half the money they have put into the government-run pension scheme to cope with the rising cost of living.

The Retirement Fund Board has instead offered short-term loans which most members have taken up

The PSA says it's expected thousands of public servants throughout Tonga including the outer islands will join in submitting their petitions to the King, Parliament, the Public Service Commission and cabinet on Friday.
