Air Niugini resumes most flights after mutiny woes

1:01 pm on 27 January 2012

Air Niugini has resumed flights to Lae, Vanimo and Kiunga after suspending scheduled flights to those destinations yesterday.

The suspensions had been made under orders from the government of Peter O'Neill due to what the airline called security uncertainties following the attempted mutiny at the Defence Force headquarters yesterday.

Air Niugini says its flights to Wewak in East Sepik Province remain suspended indefinitely.

Wewak is the home town of Sir Michael Somare who maintains that he is the legitimate prime minister.
