Fiji is hoping a strong showing from their New Zealand fans will help spur them on at this weekend's Wellington leg of the IRB World Sevens Series.

The Fiji team enter the Wellington tournament tied at the top of the competition standings with New Zealand.

But after winning the opening round on the Gold Coast their performances have slipped, highlighted by a 48-0 thrashing by Wales in Port Elizabeth.

Coach Eddie Waqa is expecting a much better showing this weekend and says the Fijian fans

"It should be a good outing for us. Fiji teams always love to play here in the Wellington crowd. We've got a lot of Fijian people over there and I know to play in New Zealand or Australia it's like playing at home. We have all the fans all around us all the time."

Fiji are pooled with Wales, Argentina and Tonga in Wellington.
