12:31 pm on 1 February 2012

The Immigration division of Samoa's Ministry of the Prime Minister has revoked a temporary residential permit of a Chinese businessman over allegations of providing false information relating to his financial status.

The Prime Minister and Minister of Immigration, Tuila'epa Sa'ilele Malielegaoi, says Guofeng Jack Chen did not have the necessary funds pertaining to his status.

The immigration office found that more than 40,000 US dollars transferred in and out of Mr Chen's account to meet immigration requirements did not belong to him.

Our correspondent says moves are afoot to remove Mr Chen.
