Fiji faces further heavy rain

12:32 pm on 1 February 2012

Continuous heavy rain and flooding of low lying areas in Fiji look set to continue with another tropical low expected to affect the island group this week.

A senior weather official, Amit Singh, says a second tropical depression heading towards Fiji from Vanuatu is increasingly likely to form a tropical cyclone within the next 12 to 24 hours.

He says people need to be still keep themselves informed of changing weather patterns, as a second tropical low west of Nadi now moves towards New Caledonia

"People of Fiji were informed well in advance from Monday/Sunday, of the depressions of heavy rain and strong winds. And tonight we expect it to take a clockwise turn and move towards New Caledonia, or just south of New Caledonia."
