Two New Zealand crew members of the fishing vessel the San Nikunau have been charged at a federal court in Washington D.C, over an oil spill in American Samoa last year.
The San Nikunau was detained last year in American Samoa by the U.S. Coast Guard for allegedly discharging oily bilge into the waters of the territory.
James Pogue and Rolando Ong Vano have each been charged with one count of conspiracy to defraud the United States and one count of destruction, alteration or falsification of records in a federal investigation.
Vano is facing an additional charge of obstruction of justice.
They are charged along with Sanford Limited, and have pled not guilty,
